one week of hell...

so i just passed one week of real working life.

it hasnt been easy at all. you would think a newcomer should have some sort of honeymoon period to infuse into the company culture.

well, not my company!

even though my boss did not give me the support level i expected (you know, intro to colleagues, clear direction, etc), i cant really push all the blame is all his.

you see, i havent been using my brain in last job!

yes, in the previous company, i didnt have to think at all. it was just "boss say, i follow" management style. in fact, the company was so laidback, whatever i tried to introduce was too advanced for them to handle (ok, i am bragging a little, but you get the point).

this resulted in me having a major culture shock and crisis. now.

i forgot how to think, how to communicate properly with peers. again, i am exaggerating. but i seriously am finding it hard to cope. i was so in my comfort zone. and it doesnt help that other colleagues seem to be in a breeze in their areas.

and i havent mentioned the transition from pc to a mac. luckily, mac is really quite easy to use.

well, i will just have to endure the next few months.

ps just some idea of what my boss expects from me, the newbie, i already need to bring laptop home over the first weekend!

When I first got this job, my boss expected me to know the business plan inside out within 2 days. Snap finger, know revenue figure, snap finger, what is causing the slide in earnings, snap finger, what drivers will cause the valuation to change by 5%, snap finger, what components are affecting the WACC and by how much and how can we address these issues.

2 days to plough through the business plan which is more than 50 pages thick and the Excel spreadsheet more than 5Mb in size.

Die-ded already. I know how you feel.

My laptop goes home with me almost every weekend. :)

hey, at least you have something to start with. i have nothing. the process was (and is) offline and the person doing it (forced to do) has literally washed her hands off. hard to dig info from her too..

well, i might as well enjoy creating the business plan while at it, with xena to keep me company.

You remind me of....me! I am in my comfort zone (that's why still have black hair), although with the current re-org, things are getting busier, hope I can still don't bring work home. Haha!

Anyway, the transition period is like that, must be more 'on' to catch up with new things, new work culture and the most challenging of all, new people.

Dear KSN, gambatte! Don't give up! You applied a job for this company because you like something about the job. They employed you because they know you can give them some expertise they need!!

Give it some time, it will work out.
